Froth in May

For me one of the highlights of the merry month of May is the short but explosive flowering of the Cow Parsley on the brinks, dyke-sides, roadsides and headlands.
The season is, as always with seasonal flowers, a short one but the plant grows tall and attracts butterflies, insects and bees and the finches and sparrows dine royally on the seeds after the flowers are spent. On a sunny day the lines of flowers nodding away in the sun and wind are real pleasure to see and I think they are an integral part of early summer, a herald of yet more treats to come as the summer progresses.
      Full marks to Cow Parsley.
