The long dry spell has now entered the fourth week, the water butts are dry and even the dykes are drying out. Some of the wheat fields have yellowing patches where the crop has been burnt away by the sun and because of the lack of water but in those fields that are closest to us the spring wheat is growing, however, large cracks are developing in the surface soil and reaching down into the ground for six or seven inches.
One good thing though, when the rains do finally come the water will be transported straight down to the roots. Meanwhile we really are beginning to live in a dustbowl.
