When the season is over

When we were out on the early morning walk one day last week I took the two terriers past the 'now no-go area' that is the Purple Passion asparagus bed. The plants are growing apace with the warm nights and even warmer days and the ferns are now about three feet or a metre high.
There were masses of new shoots peeping through the ground but I could only stand a covet because they are safe until next spring, it's the close season for asparagus if you like, but florists and flower arrangers would love the huge ferns that the spears grow into.
There's no harm in window shopping though, just don't be tempted to step out of line with the area's traditions, unless you want to blackballed.
Anyway someone could quite easily be watching me through a telescopic sight.

  2. Anticipation is the word. We've just picked the first plums and they are wonderful.

  3. Go down Barroway Drove and try a bit of aspaargus poaching and you'll deffo get shot. It is a somewhat self-contained and self-sustaining community along there......

  4. Even at night I wouldn't. Image intensifying sights...
