The orchard is beginning to provide us with the first crop of apples, the appropriately named Discovery. When they're ripe the apples are marbled with pink streaks, almost like raspberry ripple, and they are fantastically juicy. It's a battle keeping the terriers away from them too because they absolutely love them.
We're both putting the old adage 'an apple a day keeps the doctor away' to a stern test and the apples are so tempting that you end up eating one on the way out on the walk and one on the way back.
Then there are the Michaelmas Reds, Spartans, Queen Cox, Worcesters to come and not forgetting the pears.
The season of plenty is definitely with us.
So pretty John. We should start seeing apples soon.
