The plum blossom trail

Spring must be here, it's April, a north wind is blowing and today it's foggy and damp but the the plum trees are doing their very best to put on a show. Gradually the later cropping varieties are becoming covered in blossom but the earliest variety, appropriately named Laxton's Early is putting on a sterling display. The sight really cheers you up on a dull and damp morning walk with the terriers.
Sadly there are a few trees that will need to be thinned out, trees that have been irrevocably damage during the winter storms. The trees are old, easily one hundred years plus and they'll be sawn back, logged and left to season with the brash left for the wildlife and then new varieties will be planted in their place.
By the time we are into July there'll be fast food hanging on the branches when we walk past. Now that'll be something to look forward to.

  1. John it looks like the trees have accomplished their mission "beautiful" sight as I drink my morning coffee.

  2. Alan, despite the chill wind from the north the bees are hard at doing what they do. Next will be the pear trees and then all the apple varieties. All the best, John
