An owl's vantage point

The old Nissen Hut that we pass every day when we are walking the two terriers seems to have become a point of considerable relief for the owls.
We've seen Barn Owls and Tawny Owls in the immediate area but having seen the 'whitewash' splatter down the curved corrugated roof the terriers and I had a hunt in the long grass in front of the door for owl pellets. We found a couple of quite large but disintegrating examples so the conclusion is that it is Tawny Owl.
The birds are obviously using the top of old door as a vantage point and latrine, never mind the plants underneath should grow well. Meanwhile we are keeping an eye open to try try and catch the lovely bird on the camera.
When the wheatfield over the dyke is harvested there'll be some straw bales to make a hide and we'll see what turns up.

  1. Hi John

I was recently carrying out a site survey on a major pharmaceutical manufacturing site in North East Lincolnshire for work. One of the buildings we were surveying had two huge piles of guano outside and down the walls. Further inspection revealed loads of regurgitated pellets.

It is amazing where these wonderful creatures will turn up.....

    Thanks

    Alistair

  2. Alistair, There are Little Owls in the orchard but it will be interesting to see which owl it is using the hut. All the best, John
