Keeping up appearances

When we were out and about with the grandsons we saw this Post Office worker doing a little bit of maintenance and image improvement and all from a white van, not a red one.
The next day I saw our regular postman and told him about it and he said that the letterbox painters go around their area keeping the boxes spick and span and the van is always a white one in their particular branch of the Royal Mail.
It was good to see that lovely shade of red being applied and the sheet laid to protect the black firebrick paviours. I had a quick chat with the Royal Mail painter and he said he loves his job driving around rural Norfolk painting letterboxes in all of the out of the way places.
I wonder if he has a guide to all of the letterbox locations or do people ring in with a request for their local box to be tidied up and re-painted? As you read this an artist is at work somewhere in Norfolk with his brush, red paint and white van.
