A planned fishing trip on one of the drains had to be aborted because of the water conditions. We've had no appreciable rain to stir the drains up and the run-off from the land earlier in the year has enriched the water and complete with agricultural nitrogen applied to the land in the spring has resulted in an absolute explosion of duckweed growth.
The growth just drifts up and down, separating and then closing up and covering the surface, it's just a great pity that the ducks don't eat it. The phenomena happens every year so I shouldn't really be surprised but it's just that the onset seems so rapid. A saving grace is that as the weather conditions change it can disappear just as quickly. The weather will sort it out. Eventually.
Didn't look too bad from Outwell down to Downham today. Had the gear in the car but not enough time. Middle Level chocker though. Plenty of fish priming in both drains.
ReplyDeleteStephen, The Sixteen Foot, Pophams and the west end of the midlevel a grim. I tried Sunday evening but is was disheartening to say the least. The creek isn't too bad but other places like The Cuckoo are horrible. Roll on a weather change. Meanwhile let's have another beer. John
