Discovering a big Discovery

It's that time of year when the ripening fruit in the orchard is coming at you thick and fast. One of my favourites are the first apples to ripen, Discovery, and something in the weather conditions this year must have been to their liking. The apples are huge and in some cases, like the one shown above, the single apple will feed two people. Once ripe they are sweet and juicy and it's difficult to keep the two terriers off them.
Tydeman's Early Worcester are good too but I think  the Discovery is my favourite of the two, maybe it's something to do with the raspberry ripple-like marbling that runs through them. Next come another favourite Spartan and they're properly crunchy apples and to relieve the routine there are still plenty of plums, Victorias at the moment to be followed by Burbank Giant Prune and Marjorie Seedling.
Still mustn't complain, and I'm not.
