A very noticeable change in the weather in the last week or so. We haven't had any convincing rain yet but an autumnal coolness has arrived in the mornings and evenings although the sun still has some heat from midday until late afternoon.
The atmospheric changes are one indicator of the changing season and another is the small flocks of House Martins heading south, sometimes a flock of over one hundred skimming the stubble fields and at other times small flocks of ten or twenty. The Swifts disappeared south a month ago and were rapidly followed by the Swallows now the Martins are the last to be cleared for take-off.
One morning the conditions were perfect for a really misty dawn to develop and those conditions rapidly turned into a fog, very atmospheric and the weak sun certainly silhouetted the new transformer box to advantage.
I'm beginning to think about October and pike fishing.
It's certainly about that time John. Perch too.
