This looks and smells interesting

Out walking the two Parson Jack Russell Terriers, Barney and Lucie, when Barney began to be very interested in a patch of grass at the back of the orchard. When I caught up with him there was the signature dining arrangement of one of the pair of local Sparrowhawks.
Roughly a circle of feathers and nothing else of the bird left after the comprehensive dining demolition of a Wood Pigeon. The night before both of the terriers jumped and froze at the sound of a thud ten or fifteen yards away and I reckon it was the hawk hitting its prey and then enjoying a lovely fresh supper.
This morning there were the remains of a Dove on the front lawn, it had been treated the same way, no doubt that was a hawks breakfast.
It's a hard and cruel world out there.
