This year we decided to grow less chillies, three plants in fact, but to grow them in quite large pots and on Sunday morning I carried out this year's chilli harvest. The yield from just three plants, well bushes really, was truly colossal and the photograph shows way less than a quarter of the crop.
The boss is now preparing to make twelve one pound jars of sweet chilli sauce and the remainder we'll freeze according to colour and they'll be used as and when required in cooking. The thick green and red variety are Serrano, the yellow are Lemon Chillies and the smaller pointy ones are hot, damned hot, but I cannot remember their name.
I remember reading somewhere that you can overwinter the plants after a good pruning the result being that they'll come again next year with an even heavier crop. So the next job is to find that information again and give it a try, nothing ventured nothing gained.
Now for the Crab Apple gin. That's yet another winter warmer.
