The two Parson Jack Russell Terriers and I always walk the headlands brinks at the side of the dykes but when the autumn tidy-up starts things can get just a little mucky. All the silt and plant matter from dykes gets dumped in the field on one side and is eventually ploughed into the ground, if you decide to walk through what is basically sticky and very adhesive mud both you and the two terriers get decidedly mucky.
The whole dyke side looks utterly barren but in a few weeks the green shoots of next years Norfolk Reed will be showing through the soil and through the water. I like the abstract view of the landscape when you view it close-up, seasonally coloured horizontal banding if you like.
