Healthy eating for mice

It's Sunday morning and I'm trundling along with the two terriers after a night of high winds and some heavy rain although at least the sun is shining. Out of the corner of my eye I see a clump of orange at the edge of the still unploughed stubble field and think it's some kind of fungi.
Wrong again, because upon closer examination it's dozens of plum stones and every single one has been carefully nibbled to give access to the kernel and the succulent middle has been carefully eaten out of every stone. Closer scrutiny reveals the tiny hole where the mouse has taken the food to eat in peace and quiet, although the refuse heap is a bit of giveaway regarding the location.
He, or she, has done well to avoid the barn owls, tawny owls and kestrels that are always on patrol for their supper. I'll keep watch on the heap to see if it grows anymore, talk about a sensible whole food diet while living dangerously.
