I'd been ambling through an orchard and as usual the two terriers were giving rooting, hunting and digging their absolute total concentration when I saw a squirrel. The squirrel was also concentrating but when the little rodent sensed he was being watched he was off and into a stand of poplars whose trunks were covered in ivy. A great hiding place, sheltered too.
I walked over to check-up on what he was eating with such gusto and discovered it was plum stones again, obviously they're good for squirrels too. The big difference was he was eating the dried plums, Norfolk Prunes, that were still hanging in the trees to get at the stones. Not quite Californian dried prunes and you'd have to desperate to try them yourself.
Anyway, you've been warned, never stand behind a squirrel, certainly not in West Norfolk and definitely not if it's been on the prunes.
