Victims of the midnight prowler

Sorry about the rather tabloid headline to the post but we really do have two or three midnight prowlers making themselves busy with people's hens and probably their ducks too. For two consecutive mornings there have been the signs of a foxes midnight feast in one of the orchards.
Needless to say the two terriers catch the scent first before I have a visual sighting of the remains under one of the apple trees or brambles bushes. All that remain are the hen feathers, usually in a rough circle, no meat or bone anywhere and certainly no washing up.
Obviously one of our neighbours is gradually losing their laying hens and this debris is all that we've found, well, apart from fox turds and we all know what a female terrier does with those.
Unless the foxes move on to greener pastures we'll be serenaded by the sound of rifle shots one night as the pest is eliminated.
