A different form of aeronautics today, namely the ever expanding Upwell squadron as the Boss and I call them. Three or four years ago there seemed to be only half a dozen or so starlings but now the numbers, or recruits, are enjoying an exponential expansion and it looks as if the triple power line is going to get used up by perching birds.
The mad aerobatics in the evening are fantastic and at this rate of expansion it will be the Upwell wing in a year or so. We haven't quite gathered a flock big enough for a full-on murmuration as yet but little by little we're getting there.
Can't beat a good murmuration John.......
ReplyDeleteI used to see them regularly over on Seal Sands and Tees Mouth when I worked on the Petrochem complexes there.
Take care
Alistair
ReplyDeleteWe see them on some of the lonely fens but I have high hopes for this ever expanding group. I hope the Peregrine and Sparrowhawks concentrate on the pigeons.
We have several flash mobs that turn up, eat all the feed and sod off again. Brood numbers seem high this year. The most bombastic piratical birds there are. Where ever they turn up it's their manor.
