At last. The plum season has started.

A sight that lifts your heart, the first plums are on the trees and ripe and ready for eating. The walks with the two terriers will, for the next few months, follow the route through the aisles of plum trees. The first to ripen are the Laxton's Early, you won't see them in your supermarket and in fact I never see them being sold at farm gates, they're a variety that is rare and getting even rarer.

Small, sweet and delicious whether fully or partially ripe. The window of opportunity with this variety is about ten days and they're gone with stroppy and pissed wasps getting everr more boozed up on the fermenting remains and windfalls.
Next it's the Tsars and they make a fantastic jam as well as wonderful eating so I'll be picking a few pounds of those delicious purple beauties this weekend for jam making as well as chewing on a few as labour charges. Note to self; I must not eat too many while harvesting them.
The season of plenty is well under way.
