An old plum tree in an orchard that has gone beyond being in poor health and is in a state of terminal decay but the tree has provided a home through the winter for a mouse and the plum stones collected from the orchard floor have filled the creatures larder and stomach.
The little rodent is a tidy eater too with what looks like a neat bite out of the stone to get at the kernel, in reality it's an awful lot of nibbling to get to the juicy kernel. There were hundreds of shells all round the tree but no sign of the mouse, maybe one of the local owls has picked him off for his supper and if he'd been in residence the terriers would have shown a greater interest.
The two terriers and I will keep checking for signs of life and banqueting.
Industrious little fellers.
