Up and about before 06.00am with Lucie our jack Russell Terrier and you meet all kinds of people, well not people but animals: Rabbits, Stoats, Foxes and Roe Deer. Some are just going to bed and some, like us, are just rising from their slumbers.
As a matter of principle I keep Lucie ion her lead to keep the training going but neither do I want to be chasing her chasing deer and other animals across miles of cornfields and stubble, overgrown orchards and through dykes and ditches. I feel quite embarrassed that we disturbed the deer, they always seem so surprised by our arrival, almost as if we have no right to be there at all, but it is a treat to see them and their elegant running.
