Our son, wife and family came up to see us at the weekend and inevitably the five year old wanted to go fishing for some 'massive fish grandad, so off we went to the river in the village. We didn't catch a lot in the heat but three small bream and three small roach caused massive excitement because they were 'huge'. Oh to be able to see the world through the eyes of a small again!
Discipline, well that is different, 'don't throw the crust on the water or the swans will be a nuisance. So what do we do? You guessed, we toss the crust on the water and the inevitable happens. Grandad knows nothing.
Anyway it was fun, despite trying to teach a five year old to use a bread punch and strike gently. Needless to say the float was wrapped round my neck and tangled quite a few times and for a five year old to concentrate for two whole hours, obviously I use the term loosely, is a major achievement. He's excited about the next visit and the next fishing trip now. I think I am too.
